Planning in Brent

Brent has 22 conservation areas, and all of its residential conservation areas are covered by Article 4 directions. The council’s Residential Extensions & Alterations guidance (2025) says:

• Single-storey rear extensions on terraced and semi-detached houses could be up to 6 metres deep from the original rear wall (8 metres for detached houses), no more than half the length of the garden, and up to 4 metres high with eaves no higher than 3 metres.
• Rear dormers could be up to the full width of the roof, set at least 0.2 metres up from the eaves and no higher than the original ridge. Front dormers are only acceptable where they’re common in the street.
